It's been a while since I've done a post reviewing movies we've seen recently. Liz and I watch new movies at about a 3-5 month delay since we wait for them on netflix so most of these have been out for a while. Still, you might not have seen some of them and you can use this as a warning or an endorsement.
Source Code: We just saw Source Code. I thought it was great! Liz didn't like it as much so maybe it should be a movie for guy night. The plot of the movie is this guy has to keep going back in time (kind of) to find the source of an explosion. There's a lot more to it than that but I don't want to ruin it. I think the movie had just the right amount of intrigue where you're guessing whats going on half the time. I love movies like that cuz I try to guess the secret way before the movie reveals it. The movie also has a little love story but not much. Mostly its a lot of intrigue, some action, and a bit of sci-fi. I really like the main actor, Jake Gyllenhall. He also did really well in the Prince of Persia.
Unknown: This movie stars Liam Neeson and kind of seemed like it'd be another Taken. It turned out to be a lot like Bourne Identity but much lamer. I don't recommend it. This movie also keeps you guessing throughout and I keep expected Liam to kick butt which he never quite does. My recommendation: watch Taken again.
The Eagle: This movie stars Channing Tatum. I rented it expecting it to be a lame but actiony movie that would be fun to watch once then forget. It turned out to be much better. Its about a noble, heroic roman soldier who wants to gain honor and find out what happened to his father who was lost to the north of Britian. He ends up going on a journey with his Caelic slave and there's action and suspense. I'd recommend this one if you're looking for a good action movie.
Vitus: My mom recommended this one to me. Its a foreign film about a genius living in... German?.. Sweden?... I can't remember. Anyway, this kid is too smart for his own good and gets in trouble at school. All he really wants is to be a normal kid but his parents don't want him to squander his talents. I won't say anymore except that its really a fun, sweet movie and enjoyable to watch.
Tron: (Not the new one, the original) I saw the new one before seeing this and I wish and I had seen them in order. The new one does a good job remaking the story so you don't have to see the original but there are still little things that make sense after having seen the original. The new one's plot is a little flimsy but the CG is awesome. I saw it in 3-D at an imax theatre in Texas which is absolutely the way to go. The old one also has a kind of crazy, weird plot but the cool part comes with the innovate computer graphics. It was revolutionary for its time. Its fun to watch a young Jeff Bridges. If you're feeling a little nerdy, I'd recommend this one.
Rango: The previews made the movie seem promising but both Liz and I were disappointed. There wasn't anything particularly good about this movie and the plot was cliche.
I'm tired of typing but here a few more:
The Green Hornet: Thumbs down
The Company Men: Thumbs Up
Megamind: Thumbs up
Tangled: Thumbs Up
